Wertheim & Co. started as an investment firm that was established in 1927 by owners Maurice Wertheim and Joseph Klingenstein who used to work together at the firm Hallgarten & Company. This firm mainly focused on merchant-banking business and invested with real estate companies mainly for the advantage of its partners as well as certain investment-advisory clients up until the demise of Wertheim in 1950 and Edwin Hilson, a senior partner in 1952.
After 1950, the control of this firm passed to the co-founder Joseph Klingenstein. Joseph was an excellent investor in stocks. Under his leadership, this company created a professional research department on Wall Street.
