Brand History and Description –
Fred Carl Jr., founder and CEO of Viking Range of appliances chanced upon major drawbacks in the designing of commercial kitchen equipment during their installation in his residential kitchen in 1980. These drawbacks made the commercial kitchen appliances unfit for domestic purposes. This prompted Carl to work on the designing of these equipment to make them suitable for domestic needs.
Carl began working on these drawbacks and in 1987 was able to introduce kitchen appliances perfectly suited to domestic needs. He was helped in his effort by Surjit Kalsi, ex-president of Capital Cooking Equipment. Fred Carl because of his accomplishment was invited in the latest Kitchen and Bath Association as its 82nd member. Membership of this non-profit organization is a matter of great honour. His kitchen equipment became an instant hit and reached unanticipated sales. Carl to match the growing demand had to shift his production to a facility in Eastern Tennessee with a much larger capacity. However, soon he had to face several problems with this production unit.
In October 1989, Viking started preparations for setting up its own unit of manufacturing in Carl’s hometown Greenwood, Mississippi. The first products rolled out of this factory in February 1990. In April the factory produced their first 48 inch range and by July 1990, the set up got geared up to produce the company’s entire product line. This was the first time that the company assumed total responsibility of manufacturing all its equipment. Viking is into manufacturing cookware, cutlery, dishwashers, and professional counter top appliances including premium varieties.
