The word “Rowenta” is a portmanteau. It has derived from the name of its founder Robert Weintraud. Taking the “Ro” from Robert and “Went” from Wintraud, the word and the company came into being.
Robert Weintraud, an entrepreneur from Offenbach, in the year 1884 founded Rowenta. Rowenta started as Weintraud & Co GmbH. Back then it used to be the manufacturers of clocks, lamps, various smoking apparatuses and various types of office supplies.
It was in the year 1949 that Rowenta launched their first iron. It was thermostat enabled with ceramic heating elements.
