Brand History and Description –
The Philips electronics company was originally founded in 1891 in Eindhoven by Frederik Philips and his son Gerard Philips. Frederik was a banker who was based in Zaltbommel. He purchased an empty factory building wherein the company first started to produce carbon-filament lamps as well as a range of other electro-technical products from 1892 onwards. This first factory has now been adapted as a museum. After experiencing serious financial losses and almost going bankrupt during the first few years, the father and son duo brought in Anton, Gerard’s brother. Anton was younger to Gerard by sixteen years and although he had an engineering degree, it was in the sphere of sales that he shone.
