Brand History and Description –
R.E.B. Crompton & Company was founded in 1878 by Col. R. E. B. Crompton. In 1927, this company was merged with the firm F.A. Parkinson to form the Crompton Parkinson Ltd. Greaves Cotton and Company which was established in 1859 by James Greaves was appointed as the firm’s concessionaire in India. Crompton Parkinson established the Crompton Parkinson Works Ltd. in 1937 in Bombay as a fully owned Indian subsidiary. Together with Greaves Cotton, the firm also set up a sales organization known as Greaves Cotton & Crompton Parkinson Ltd. An Indian industrialist by the name of Lala Karam Chand Thapar bought Greaves Cotton in 1947, just prior to India’s independence when it was offered for sale.
