Brand History and Description –
In 1910, S. Duncan Black together with Alonzo G. Decker founded the Black & Decker Corporation as a small Baltimore machine shop. Decker, who previously had a 7th-grade education, met Black earlier in 1906 while they were both working at Rowland Telegraph Co. Black & Decker came up with the design of the portable electric drill in 1917 and obtained a patent for a handheld drill that combines a pistol grip with a trigger switch. The logo of Black & Decker, a hexagon, was in use in one form or the other from 1912 till 2014. The logo represented a hexagonal nut which is a universal fastener.
